Jamison Professional Services, Inc. (“JPS”) is currently seeking qualified and motivated candidate for the position of a Scientist I.
Job Description:
The contractor shall provide high-level professional and technical support to develop an EFH Assessment applicable to all (or the great majority of) federal or federally-authorized port-related projects in Georgia. Specifically, the contractor shall:
- Describe the federal or federally-authorized port-related projects expected to occur in the in Georgia coastal zone over the next five years. The descriptions shall include identifications of project components and the stressors to fishery species and their habitats from each component.
- Divide the Georgia coast into appropriate ecological regions and describe the fishery species (by life stage) and fishery habitat within each region. The descriptions should note spatial and temporal trends within each region as well as environmental events (e.g., unusually low or high freshwater inflows) that affect species distributions and habitat quality.
- Evaluate the effects of the stressors on the fishery species and habitats.
- Identify and describe practicable standard operating procedures and best management practices for avoiding, minimizing, and offsetting project impacts to fishery species and habitats.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Essential
- Understanding of the EFH provisions of the MSA and the regulations for implementing ESA consultations.
- Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline.
- Knowledge of the biology of federally managed fishery species in Georgia and the habitat requirements of those species, with a minimum of one year, preferably three- years, of experience in the field of marine ecology.
- Strong professional writing skills.
- Desirable:
- Strong understanding of the impacts to fish and coastal habitats from dredging projects.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Experience successfully organizing interagency meetings.
- Experience using Microsoft Access and ESRI ArcGIS to make maps and to manage spatial data for retrieval and analysis.
