Jamison Professional Services, Inc. (“JPS”) is currently seeking qualified and motivated candidate for the position of Scientist I (Endangered Species Act (ESA) Biologist).

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The contractor shall assist PRD in carrying out the consultation requirements of section 7 of the ESA.  ESA Section 7 consultation is required by all federal agencies undertaking federal actions that may affect listed species or their critical habitat under NMFS purview in the Southeast U.S.  These species include six species of great whale, five species of sea turtle, seven species of corals, Johnson’s seagrass, smalltooth sawfish, Gulf sturgeon, Atlantic sturgeon, and shortnose sturgeon.  Consultations may range in complexity from simple, individual projects to major federal actions with significant environmental impacts. 

OBJECTIVES

The ESA biologist shall provide high-level professional and technical support to accomplish PRD’s ESA Section 7 consultation process.  Areas of assistance to PRD include:

  • ESA Consultations: The ESA consultation biologist shall draft and complete written ESA Section 7 consultation documents. 
  • Research:  The ESA consultation biologist shall complete reviews of a variety of information in development of ESA Section 7 consultations.
  • Meetings:  The ESA consultation biologist shall attend meetings required research to complete ESA Section 7 consultations.
  • Data management and analysis:  The ESA biologist shall use consultation databases collect, and compile and analyze information and data for ESA Section 7 consultations.
  • Travel: The ESA consultation biologist shall attend meetings and/or site visits necessary to provide or gather information required to complete ESA Section 7 consultations.  Additionally, the contractor will register and attend the first offering of ESA Section Training at the National Conservation Training Center or another similar training approved by the Task Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  1. Demonstrated experience in developing written ESA Section 7 consultation documents (species observer work does not meet this requirement).
  2. Knowledge of marine science, estuarine ecology, marine and coastal fisheries, coastal habitat and science, with minimum of one year.in these fields. 
  3. Bachelor’s degree in an associated discipline.
  4. Strong critical thinking and professional writing skills.
  5. Ability to follow complex directions and protocols.
  6. Ability to independently manage large workload with multiple projects

Desirable

  1. Strong understanding of the coastal ecology of the southeastern United States. Strong organizational skills.
  2. Knowledge of aquatic habitat restoration or aquatic habitat impact assessment.
  3. Knowledge of marine science, estuarine ecology, marine and coastal fisheries, coastal habitat and science, with3-years of professional experience in these fields. 
  4.  Government Clearance is a plus
