DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES:

The objective of this requirement is to provide Temporary Personnel Services for daily employment services in support of the operation of Dekalb County in Georgia. County departments will require the services of temporary personnel to assist with special projects of a time-limited nature, to fill in for staff on vacation or extended leave, and/or to assist during periods of peak activity. Skills test may be administered to assess proficiency levels.

The Accounting Technician is responsible for performing a variety of paraprofessional accounting and clerical duties requiring knowledge of basic accounting, such as processing financial documents, reconciling accounts, and preparing reports, and performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or GED; one year of experience as an accounting clerk/technician, bookkeeper, or in a related financial position. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience or related certification will be considered.

PREFERRED

  • Relevant professional certification preferred
  • Experience with government accounting principles (GASB)
  • Proficiency in accounting software and data analysis tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Bilingual a plus (bilingual is not a requirement)

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Tasks include, but are not limited to, additional duties as assigned.

  • Process documentation pertaining to accounts payable, reviews invoices, expense reports, travel requests, or other payable documents for accuracy, completeness, and proper authorization.
  • Matches invoices with receiving tickets, purchase orders, and statements.
  • Reconciles monthly statements; assigns proper budgetary codes to each expenditure.
  • Enters invoice data into the computer system; processes stop payments as needed.
  • Prepares and balances check registers and summary reports.
  • Research vendor information as needed; research discrepancies on orders/invoices and works with vendor/department for problem resolution.
  • Prepare 1099 forms and tax-exempt forms.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Normal working hours are 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday.

During the assignment, temporary personnel shall not work for any period over eight (8) hours per day for a maximum of forty (40) hours per week without prior authorization.

DeKalb County government observes eleven (11) holidays during each calendar year: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Whenever a County-observed holiday occurs on Saturday, the previous Friday will be observed. Whenever a County-observed holiday occurs on Sunday, the Monday following will be observed.

This work requires on-site performance and is not eligible for remote work or telework.
